CRYSTALS (PT. 2)

Healing crystals made their entrance into my life by pure accident. I like to believe the universe was once again weaving it's expert synchronicities that so often goes unnoticed.

About 5 years ago I bought a stock lot of Rose Quartz from Mexico for a photography project and was confronted with a weathered box heavier than a small child. The inside was plentiful with natural Rose Quartz, each the size of a brick. As I opened the battered and beaten box they seemed to radiate in their union and just like the energy they represent, I fell immediately in love with them. Because I now owned more than what I knew what to do with I begun to place them in and around my home, I gifted many to friends and family and once even bathed my face in the water I had been instructed to cleanse them in - as according to their properties - they enhance youthfulness. I'll try ANYTHING to stave off the aging process but moreover, within days of having them in my home, our family environment changed. Distinctly so.

Rose Quartz is a stone of the heart, a Crystal of Unconditional Love. It carries a soft energy of compassion and peace, tenderness and healing, nourishment and comfort. It speaks directly to the Heart Chakra, dissolving emotional wounds, fears and resentments, and circulates a Divine loving energy throughout the entire aura. Reawakening the heart to its own innate love, it provides a deep sense of personal fulfillment and contentment, allowing one the capacity to truly give and receive love from others.

Cynics (...and I know quite a few) would call this the placebo effect however the difference was palpable; there was a greater sense of calm, more love and less arguments. The healing properties that this mineral represented seemed to filter ever so gently throughout our living space.

Crystals have been used as a tool to promote healing across a multitude of cultures for well over a millenia, there's a lovely article here should you wish to further your reading into the historic use of crystals and their individual benefits. Each crystal holds a different purpose and power and while I'm no expert, I can offer my experience with the one's that I own.

An Amethyst was my next purchase due to their stress relieving properties. They are said to rid you of negative energy, promote physical and mental healing, provide spiritual protection and offer clarity of mind. This was followed by a Citrine, the stone of abundance. Abundance. The most beautiful word, surely? A Citrine is to be ideally placed in the furthest left corner of your home or in your purse to promote success and financial well-being. I accidentally broke my first Citrine into a few pieces and handed them to those close to me who at the time were struggling financially. I also purchased a citrine beaded bracelet which I had Reikied from a healer and wear daily, it is something I can never be without and I suppose it has become a talisman of sorts.

When I received my Reiki attunement I was holding a Celestine which I purhcased from an amazing lady who's business can be found here. This is the crystal I have the most spiritual attachment to because of it's mirrored attunement. I use this to meditate but truth be told within five small minutes of it being in my palm I'd drift off into a deep sleep which perfectly reflects this crystal's properties; balance, reconciliation, an inner sense of calm and of course sleep. My two son's are captivated with my crystals and their zeal to get their mitts on them culminated in to the demise of Celestine fracturing it into four chunks. I now put each remaining piece under our pillows to promote sound, peaceful sleep.

One of my favourites is my Selenite tower which I purchased from my Reiki healer. Selenite embodies a high vibration energy that works to help you to bring light down from the higher realms into the physical body, to create personal transformation, promote creativity, protect your home and amplify the strength of your surrounding crystals. The day I eagerly carried it home I almost lost a limb due to it's weight, it cost me £30-ish and it's the most beautiful £30 I've ever spent. I have always kept my tower in which ever room I work from, creative block is a serious disease for designers - I make as many preventative measures as possible :)

The crystals I invested in were personal to me and my needs, I knew what I was lacking spiritually, emotionally and atmospherically and with some research I actively sought out natural elements that may assist with remedying those areas. I don't believe that's what is readily / scientifically / medically available is always the best option, there is zero element of harm in expanding your options and experimenting in a manner which wont effect the chemical balance of your body.  The healing properties of these crystals may not translate to your needs to the extent that they did to mine which is why I would encourage you to address what you would like to improve in your emotions, your outlook, your habitat, consider the areas in your life that are nolonger running smoothly THEN do your research and make it personal to you. As a whole though, you can't go wrong with the basics.

I purchased a Tourmaline a few years back, their intense black is beautiful in itself however I was also moved with their meaning symbolically. A Tourmaline, is a cleanser of your aura, it's an absorber and it blocks toxic energy within and around your environment.

Wear Black Tourmaline jewellry or carry it in your pocket or purse so you don't pick up on other people’s toxic energy, making it your own. It's one thing to be compassionate and caring but it's the danger zone for your soul when you take on someone else's drama. Black Tourmaline is also associated with the root chakra, the energy center that keeps us feeling grounded and secure. The energy of the planet is chaotic but with the Black Tourmaline stone in your life, always feel firmly anchored to the earth and its healing vibrations.

Key for me, is it's protection against electromagnetic rays, an absolute must for me as I spend hours each day facing a computer.

I recently came across a wonderful lady on Instagram who creates hand made necklaces from an array of healing crystals. As it's not always practical to carry your crystals around in your handbag, her creation offered the perfect solution and I have worn this tourmaline necklace every day since it arrived in the post. It is so beautifully crafted and small enough to slip under your shirt meaning that it is something that can accompany me daily whilst going unnoticed but still offering it's level of desired protection.

Once you notice the effects of your first crystal, it is likely that your collection will continue to grow. As your collection builds, as will your knowledge. It is not something that I actively sought out, my introduction was purely coincidental, a wonderful coincidence at that. Crystals won't cure all your ailments, and I hope to remind you that what I speak of within this journal is merely an honest reflection of the holistic introductions and changes I inititiated as a means to adapt my once chaotic life into something more harmonious. Having them in my home has certainly enhanced a level of ambience; at a basic level perhaps their presence has served as reminder that they are there and to be more mindful in certain situations. The boost they have provided is undeniable, especially when each one is used correctly to serve the needs that they remedy.

Tonight is a full moon in Leo; a suberb opportunity to post this entry, the perfect time to remind you to place your crystals under the moon light for a much needed recharge.
