“I felt once more how simple and frugal a thing of is happiness: a glass of wine, a roast chestnut, a wretched little brazier, the sound of the sea. Nothing else.” - Nikos Kazantzakis
Isn’t it funny that with age the simplest of things in life bring you ultimate of pleasures?
For me... Getting up early. My first coffee. Silence. Working hard and with purpose. Routine (but not too much) The sea and it’s sounds and breezes. An early nights rest on a full stomach with a peaceful sleep in freshly washed bedding.
Small changes to our thought process, namely appreciating more and being satisfied with less is something that I believe is key to inner peace. This is a murky pond for me to dip my toe into as I am in no way an expert, all that I can offer is an insight to what worked for me and how those bad habits that I clung on to (for decades) slowly died and made space for living a more simplified existence. Until a few years back I was drowning in concerns that ultimately I had little control over, I was fueled by anxiety and stress and although I was in an incredibly fortunate position compared to many in this world, life seemed bleak. When you’re miserable for no reason then it’s a problem and the problem begins and ends with your mind.
Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life. If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind.
One of the major factors for creating this journal is to document and share the various alternative therapies and beautiful literature I have read that had a profound effect on changing my mental mechanics. It can't be said that the odd hour of Reiki or skimming through a handful of books will change your mind set forever, but it does provide that crucial first step to gaining some level of understanding into conquering a negative thought pattern. I have never felt healthier, I have never slept better and I have never been more aligned with my soul’s purpose.
- A collection of my recent reads, you have to make time for yourself, you choose how to busy yourself and what better way to spend free time than absorbing beautiful text written by beautiful minds?
This journal is about to get as new age as fuck and seriously, I can't wait to share the wonderfully bizarre things that are already at our disposal if only we looked a little deeper :)
